Plants are at the heart of our gardens, and with creative planting, you can make sure that you have year-round interest in your beds and borders.
Using a variety of plant forms, colours, textures and habits this course encourages you to explore how to select plants to suit your site, build resilience in a changing climates, and plan creative, inspiring and long lasting plantings, keeping your garden looking beautiful all year round.
This three-week course offers a blend of tutor-led learning and practical workshops focused on developing planting designs for garden borders. Mornings are dedicated to exploring key concepts in planting design, while afternoons involve hands-on planning guided by expert tutors.
- Week 1: Introduction to planting design with Darren Rudge, exploring design principles, layering of plants, and how soil and climate affect plant choices.
- Week 2: Plant selection with David Stevens, focusing on inspirational combinations and seasonal interest, with examples from Winterbourne gardens.
- Week 3: Sustainable and resilient planting with Helen Wood, emphasising ecological practices such as native plants, pollinator support, and wildlife-friendly features.
