For Leicester-based artist Helen Newton, Winterbourne provides a wealth of inspiration. For this exhibition, she has created an exciting new collection of work, taking both Winterbourne’s garden and its archival collections as her source material.
Helen’s interest in art began at school, where she studied life drawing. Following a career in teaching, she decided to dedicate her time to her own artistic practice. Employing a range of media including gouache, watercolour, inks and even the iPad ‘Brushes’ application, Helen particularly enjoys painting houses, gardens and plants. She instinctively sees pattern everywhere, and her original approach to perspective transforms her subjects into masterpieces of design.
Helen says: “My work is based on realistic images, but colour, pattern and perspective are enhanced to record the personality of the special place, person or event.”
These vibrant images, full of colour and life, truly capture the unique personality of Winterbourne.
The art exhibition by Helen Newton will take place on the second floor of the house.
