Fabulous Fonts – a celebration of lettering

Winterbourne presents a day of talks and more, celebrating  lettering and type.

Winterbourne House and Garden has become a hub for the sharing of skills and knowledge about all aspects of letterpress printing and typography. In the thriving Winterbourne Press, traditional skills are practised and passed on for the future, and the Typographic Library offers researchers a valuable resource.

For this exciting study day, we have brought together an outstanding range of speakers on different aspects of lettering and typography. There will also be opportunities to handle collection items, and to see the Winterbourne Press in action.

We are pleased to be welcoming:

Lynne Baggett of Louisiana State University talking about gravestone lettering styles.

Mark Noad of the Lettering Arts Trust talking about contemporary wood blocks and lettering artists.

and David Osbaldestin from Birmingham City University sharing his love of typography.

The programme will include opportunities to visit the typographic library housed at Winterbourne. As well as this you will see and handle historic printing blocks, limited edition printed books and catalogues from the Winterbourne collection hand-picked by our curator. Dedicated volunteers will also have our historic printing presses in action.

The ticket price covers a sandwich packed lunch and self serve drinks throughout the day.
