Every so often, something happens that makes us pause, smile, and reflect on how special this place truly is. This week, we received some wonderful news: Winterbourne House and Garden has been awarded a Travellers’ Choice Award by TripAdvisor . That means we’ve had so many great reviews; we’re in the top 10% of things to do in the world.

The past year has been packed with unforgettable moments: from our Wonders of Winterbourne campaign celebrating University of Birmingham’s 125th anniversary, to featuring on BBC Gardeners’ World Live and Alan Titchmarsh’s Gardening Club. We’ve been lucky to share some truly special highlights, but this recognition feels different, because it comes directly from you. And that makes it all the more meaningful.

A hidden gem

Tucked away just beyond University of Birmingham, we’re a place rooted in history, shaped by the seasons, and full of quiet wonder.

Built in 1903 by the Nettlefold family, our unique heritage site invites visitors to explore a lovingly preserved Arts-and-Crafts house, wander through seven acres of botanic garden, take part in workshops and events, and discover the fascinating stories behind our industrial roots with GKN (Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds), as well as our longstanding connection with University of Birmingham.

We care deeply about creating a place that feels special, thoughtful, and welcoming. So, to be recognised like this, by the people who matter most (that’s you), means the world.

This award isn’t really about us; it’s about you. It’s your kind words, thoughtful reviews, and genuine support that brought us here. Whether you popped in for a peaceful afternoon, brought friends along for a wander, or just enjoyed a scone in the Terrace Tea room, you helped others discover us.
