We’re thrilled to share that Winterbourne House and Garden was recently featured on one of the most beloved gardening programs, BBC Gardener’s World.
For those who have been following our journey, you know how much love and dedication we pour into maintaining and enhancing our beautiful botanical garden. So, having the opportunity to showcase the unique charm and historical significance of Winterbourne was beyond incredible. And who better to guide viewers through Winterbourne’s world than our fantastic Head Gardener, Dan?
Behind the scenes magic
The excitement was palpable as the BBC Gardener’s World crew arrived at Winterbourne. Our team was buzzing with anticipation, and Head Gardener Dan was feeling a little starstruck, suited and booted and ready for action. Every corner of the garden was ready for its close-up.
The filming day was nothing short of magical. The sun graced us with its presence, casting a golden glow across the seven acres of garden. Head Gardener Dan was interviewed by the producer, sharing insights on the seasonal highlights and the meticulous care that goes into preserving the garden’s heritage. From exploring our National Collection of Anthemis, the original Lean-to Glasshouse, Carnivorous and Orchid Glasshouses, to the woodland walk with our Japanese bridge and teahouse, the garden worked its magic. The crew was particularly fascinated by our rare plant species and the stories behind them.
A memorable experience
For Head Gardener Dan, it was an experience that he’ll never forget:
“It was loads of fun to film. The crew were fantastic to work with and were blown away by Winterbourne. They had to so much good footage, that it was a shame they couldn’t use it all. I’m proud of being able to showcase Winterbourne and all of the team’s hard work. It’s a credit to everybody – their talent and creativity – that we now have a garden that people really want to see and explore, whether that’s in person or through programmes like Gardener’s World.”
Being featured on BBC Gardener’s World is more than just a moment of pride; it’s a testament to the hard work and passion our entire team, volunteers, and the community that supports us. It’s an opportunity to inspire others to appreciate and engage with the beauty of nature and the importance of preserving historical gardens.
