Winterbourne named top European botanical garden

We know how much people love to visit from across the UK – but it seems that the magic of Winterbourne is reaching further than we thought.

ALL.com – owned by multinational hospitality company, Accord – is a top leisure and travel website, home to expert travel guides for some of the best destinations in the world.

Winterbourne garden

Its team curated a list of the 15 best botanical gardens in Europe, based on average customer ratings, number of reviews, utilities, amenities, and online popularity. We’re delighted to share that Winterbourne not only made the list but was ranked in eighth position!

Winterbourne is one of just five UK gardens to make the list, alongside iconic destinations such as Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, which took tenth spot.

If that wasn’t reason enough to celebrate, ALL.com also ranked Winterbourne as the second most beautiful garden in Europe, scoring 74/100 for ‘positive aesthetic experience’. This ranking is based on the number of reviews left by customers that rated Winterbourne highly for its beauty, using terms such as ‘beautiful’, ‘pretty’, and ‘stunning’.

Head of Winterbourne House and Garden, Lee Hale, said: ‘This is a huge achievement for all our staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to preserve this sanctuary just two miles from Birmingham city centre. Next stop: to become one of the best botanical gardens in the world!’

Winterbourne was just pipped to top spot by the National Trust’s Bodnant Garden, which also scored 74/100, yet had an overall score rating of 9.39/10 (Winterbourne, 8.44).

The only difference between the two is the number of Google reviews each garden has, with Bodnant having 374% more than Winterbourne. Both gardens scored the same on accessibility and amenities (5/5) and had an average star rating of 4.8/5, based on customer reviews.

Lee added: ‘I’m so grateful to every single person who has left us a review or recommended us to a friend. It’s people that make Winterbourne such a special place, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without the generous support of our visitors and members. Thank you to each and every one of you’.

Visitor voices are powerful things. If you love Winterbourne and would like to see it climb even higher in the European ranks, why not leave us a review on Google or TripAdvisor?
