Over three weeks our horticultural tutors will introduce you to the elements you need to create an effective garden design. In these hands-on sessions you will learn the basic techniques of surveying your garden, developing a design and drawing a layout plan.
Classes take place on Wednesdays 27th November, 4th and 11th December 2019, from 10.30am-3pm with a half-hour break for lunch.

Week 3 – Graphics and drawing a layout plan

Suggested equipment to bring with you:
- Scale rule including 1:20, 1:50, and 1:100 scales
- Range of pencils, 2H, HB and 2B
- Large or extending compass
- Set square
- Fine line drawing pens: 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5
- Circle template
- A3 or A4 sketch pad
- Masking tape

Helen Wood has over 18 years of experience of maintaining and designing gardens, alongside a dual career teaching horticulture and garden design. Helen is an experienced and enthusiastic horticulturalist and teacher, always ready to share her interest, expertise and knowledge about plants and gardens. She has run a successful garden design consultancy for 9 years, working on private and commercial gardens to the highest standards. Helen also works with Royal Horticultural Society Qualifications as an examiner and has an in-depth knowledge of RHS courses and qualifications.
