Allotments: Prepare the Ground

Healthy soil is the key to a thriving allotment! Discover how to build rich, fertile soil for healthier crops as you learn the secrets of composting, liquid feed teas, and green manure to boost your allotment’s productivity.

This session will teach you how to create high-quality compost, refine it for maximum benefit, and integrate it into your growing system. You’ll also learn how to prepare and use liquid fertiliser teas made from common garden weeds, as well as how to incorporate cover crops and green manures. These techniques will help you build soil fertility naturally while reducing the risk of soil degradation and nutrient depletion.

This is a classroom session with some demonstrations.

Recommended for ages 18+. The workshop will take place in the Winterbourne Centre for Horticulture. For any queries about this workshop, please email our Learning Officer, Ellie Hill.
